Work module 5
The aim of work module 5 is to apply the findings obtained by the Mobility2Grid research campus to practical contexts. The aim of applying research to other locations and fields is to actively help shape the societal change pursued by the energy and mobility transition by utilising the findings and resulting innovations. Four areas of Berlin have been identified as expansion spaces particularly suitable as prototypes for creating sustainable areas. A method taking into account the specific factors of the different transfer areas, which identifies the conditions of transferability and simultaneously ensures the findings obtained by the Mobility2Grid research campus can be successfully implemented, is being specially developed as part of WM 5 for transferring knowledge from science to real-world spaces. The heterogeneous nature of the transfer areas in terms of usage (e.g. residential or commercial), and the associated needs profiles, is particularly helpful here as a means of exploring the regulatory framework conditions and technical requirements necessary for integrating areas and districts with localised energy units and a growing number of e‑vehicle charging stations into distribution-grid structures and linking them up with energy markets. The solutions package includes designing and planning sustainable, cross-sector operational-management strategies with innovative business models, consultancy for digitising a specific area, e.g. by developing an area-specific Building Information Modelling platform (BIM platform), or developing comprehensive transport and mobility concepts, taking into account future-oriented technologies such as driverless cars or plug & charge. The results will be continuously presented in a modern web application in connection with the area developments. This will enable the tested and thoroughly assessed research findings to be circulated even beyond the research project, and will make them accessible to the broader society.
